Pye Group subsidiary label designs
Below are all known UK label designs for Pye Group subsidiary labels that included classical repertoire between the end of WW2 and the end of 1959. All sequences are mono, unless stated. All sequences concentrated singly on classical music, unless stated.
Vanguard & Mercury LPs
Although named "Plum Label" on sleeves the Mercury label colour was suspiciously close to the normal Pye-Nixa red (in fact, it was exactly the same red). It only became plum coloured when distribution moved to EMI.
Golden Guinea budget LPs
Both the mono and stereo budget LP sequences included a mix of popular and classical with more of a focus on easy listening. Although outside of the timeframe covered by the book, the Golden Guinea label, in the 1960s, reissued many classical pieces in the Collector Series. Many of these bundled works that had been issued previously only on Pye-Nixa 10" LPs and, once getting past the often garish, obviously budget label sleeve designs, made for excellent listening and value.
