Blues from the Avon Delta - updates & additions

A few minor cut & paste errors managed to make it to the first print run of 112 copies and these are documented below, along with a few additions that have come to light since publication.
All errors documented below are corrected in the book as currently available for sale via this website and Lulu.com.

Latest news
Based on encouraging sales of the first three 6-CD Bluesmaster reissue sets, Saydisc is planning to extend the reissue programme of seven Bluesmaster sets with five further 6-CD sets sourced from the 1960s' and 70s' Matchbox, Saydisc and Village Thing catalogues and originally released between 1967 and 1976, taking in further pre-war American blues, this time complemented by contemporary American and British blues, ragtime and hokum. See a provisional list of records earmarked for digitisation by Norman White at Nimbus - note that the exact contents may easily change based on availability/condition of original sources (many of which I have supplied, as per the current series). Current release schedule is looking at 2022/23 to follow the final Bluesmaster release.
Errors
1. The following three corrections are courtesy John Cowley:
- p. 51 - Two White Horses - the insert notes were by John Cowley, not Bruce Bastin as stated;
- p. 52 - Jack O’ Diamonds - the insert notes were by Bob Groom, not John Cowley as stated;
- p. 52 - Red River Runs - the insert notes were by Bruce Bastin, not Bob Groom as stated.
2. Sacrilege! This one spotted by myself. The first print run accidentally credits "Dixon, R. M. W., and Godrich, J." twice on p. 107 as "Dixon, R. M. W., and Dixon, J", though the in-text citations are correct. Now corrected for all new print-on-demand copies.
Additions
1. John Cowley added the following about Stuart Mitchell, who provided drawings for various Matchbox and Sunflower releases documented in the book (email, 20 May 2021): "...I recall he used to design sleeves for Dobell's 77 Records..." This is not surprising because Stuart Mitchell was more of a jazz fan than he was a blues fan, and the 77 label (named after the shop address in Charing Cross Road) concentrated mostly on jazz.
2. Following publication of the book with details of the upcoming Bluesmaster reissue programme, the fourth set, MSESET4, had its planned August 2021 release date rescheduled for July. This had a knock-on effect on the book, too, which also had its official publication date similarly altered.
3. Gef Lucena selected a cross-section of material for promotional samplers for the new 6-CD Bluesmaster sets, though thanks to a mix-up these did not arrive with me until after the book's sign-off date, hence the two then existing CDs were omitted. Only a very limited number of physical copies were pressed, whilst the content was more generally made available digitally by Nimbus for reviewers and advertising purposes. See details of the "Nuggets" samplers and the more recent Bluesmaster issues (near bottom of page).

4. Since publication, Pete Moody's box set, Something Inside Of Me, documented in brief on p. 91, was issued by Wienerworld Records. Sadly, Pete died in November 2021, whilst working on yet another blues project, so, after all his help on Avon Delta, we never did get to actually meet face-to-face and have that drink. His last communication to me was the note enclosed with my complimentary copy of the set (I provided only a very small amount of input in helping Pete to verify which version of one of the Simon & Steve takes had been previously issued, so was very surprised and pleased when the box set arrived with me).

5. To commemorate Pete Moody's near-lifelong interest in blues, fellow collector, Dave Williams, who also helped with Avon Delta, put together a facsimile of Pete's first Sunflower LP, as released via Saydisc in January 1968, for distribution at Pete's funeral.
The eagle-eyed may spot that the image (as was glued onto the original LP) is slightly different to that as issued and is taken from a previous design that was ultimately deemed too large. Thanks to the magic of digitisation, it has been reduced to the same proportions as on the version eventually used.
The transfers are of better quality that was possible using 1960s technology and many (if not all?) of the 78s used were the same copies as used for the original release because Dave had bought much of Pete's collection along the way.
