Bristol Folk Publications is a small and perfectly-flawed publishing company that publishes occasionally rather than often. In this way quality, rather than quantity, is the watchword. BFP's manifesto is simple: to publish books about Bristol and books written by Bristolians and adopted Bristolians; doubtless it will go under soon.
It must be doing something right because both the owner, Mark Jones, and the publishing company won ARSC Research Excellence Awards for work in recorded music history in 2017 for The Immediate Discography: the First 20 Years. Further books were nominated in 2014 and 2021, the latter of which might still win - we'll know next year! Imprints
The Record Press was created to market what fast became a series of British record label discographies. The Award Winning series currently covers Immediate, Charisma, Transacord, B&C's non-reggae labels, Virgin and the Saydisc family of labels (including Matchbox, Village Thing, Ahura Mazda, Matchbox-Flyright, Bluesmaster, Sunflower, Highway 51 and Kokomo).
Diogenes Academic Press was created to market various academic and business-related books that didn't sit well on the main imprint. The first books cover relational database design and development for non-techies, whilst still in the pipeline is a guide on surviving university that takes a unique approach, tentatively titled A Systems Guide to Surviving and Thriving at University. It may even get finished one of these years.
Burnham Priory was created to market Harry Jones' series of westerns and adventure novels. Writing as Hal Jons and Harry Graham, Jones had almost twenty novels published between 1960 and his early death in 1983. All of the early works were westerns and, in the new millennium, these were highlighted as exemplars of genre. Harry also used his mining childhood in south Wales and his wartime experiences for further publications.
